I’m Xiaopu Fung (pronounced “shao-poo”). I love having photos of my own family taken as a way of documenting our years together and I want to be able to help you document your family journey as well.
My goal is to capture photos worthy of hanging in your living room – photos that can generate “WOWs” from family and friends. I love capturing close-ups of people’s faces and their myriad of expressions.
I’ve lived in Waterloo for over 20 years, and in my spare time (i.e what’s not taken up by my son and daughter) I train at the Waterloo Kung Fu Academy and volunteer for the KW Community Foundation, KidsAbility Foundation and Fluxible.
I’m committed to a quick turnaround time because I know how anxious people can get waiting in anticipation for their photos. I will aim send you an online gallery of your proofs within 3 days of your photos being taken. You can then select your favourites (up to the number of photos included in your package). If you can’t decide on your favourites because you like too many of your photos, no worries! Additional photos can be added à la carte. Normally, within 7 days of your selection, I will have your fully-edited and retouched photos ready for delivery.
Candid vs Posed
We all love natural smiles and relaxed body language – and I’ve designed my sessions to make sure we accomplish this. We’ll start with posed shots to get you warmed up, and as the session progresses, the candids come out of the spontaneous actions and reactions during and in between poses.
Duration of Photo Session
I don’t watch the clock because I want to make sure that I build a good rapport with you and your kids. Let’s face it, some kids (and adults) take a long time to warm up to strangers. If you’re going to be spending the money to get professional family photos taken, I want them to look fantastic and rushing because of limited time doesn’t do anyone any good. Sessions could be as quick as 30 minutes or as long as two to three hours. I want to give you my undivided attention and so I do not book back-to-back sessions.
All beautiful photos start with the right background. It helps to have a cooperative subject, but it’s the composition, lighting, and ultimately, the right background that makes a photo “pop”.
To deliver on having the right background, I have a handful of outdoor locations that I know will create stunning images. Alternatively, we can have a session at your home! Two caveats: there needs to be enough natural light to work with and we may need to rearrange some furniture and/or clutter to reduce the distractions in the background.
Before the Session
We can schedule a phone consultation to discuss what your vision of the photos are or just chat via email. After you book, I will send you a model release form for you to sign and a quick questionnaire to learn more about you and/or your family’s interests. I will also send you more information about things to consider: clothing, hair, make-up, props, snacks, inclement weather, etc. If you book a session for Friday, Saturday or Sunday, a $100 deposit will be required to reserve your spot.
If you have any questions or comments or just want to say hello, please feel free to drop me a line. I look forward to hearing from you!
